About Cancer Network Fife
A brief history - In 1997, a multi –agency working group, including representation from the community, voluntary groups, Fife Health Council, Social Work Service and the health sector, reviewed existing and proposed cancer services in both the statutory and voluntary sectors. Visits were arranged to recognised centres of excellence – Maggie’s Centre at the Western General in Edinburgh and the Clan Centre in Aberdeen. The Working Group recognised the need for a community – based organisation in Fife, to address identified unmet need in the provision of support and information.

Cancer Network Fife was formed in 1999 - the inspiration for a community based resource coming from a Fife woman whose experience following her husband William’s terminal cancer diagnosis had prompted her to highlight the difficulty in finding appropriate local support, information and advice when she needed it most. In memory of William, our service logo design is based on the Sweet William flower.
Cancer Network Fife is strategically driven by a Board of Directors. The day to day running of the organisation is the responsibility of staff and trained volunteers, headed by the Co-ordinator.
We form part of the Fife Cancer Support Network, a project team responsible for bringing Maggies Cancer Care Centre to Fife. Within the project, Cancer Network Fife provides community outreach services - bringing cancer support directly to the people of Fife in their own homes and communities.
